High Temperature and High Humidity Environment May Cause Harm to Laser

In the high temperature and high humidity season, the ambient temperature and humidity of the laser are increased. Especially in the rainy season, the use of the laser environment will be affected to different degrees. According to the experience of laser use, long-term use of lasers in a high temperature and humid environment will accelerate the aging of the internal components of the laser, and even lead to condensation, causing irreversible damage to optical devices and electronic devices.

How does laser condensation occur

When the external ambient temperature and humidity are too high, the water in the air is saturated. When the surface temperature of the laser is lower than the dew point temperature of the nearby air, the surface will condense the water in the air and adhere to the laser, resulting in condensation and condensation. The condensation phenomenon does not necessarily occur only on the outer surface of the laser, and the components and optics inside the laser are also at risk of cold condensation.

The influence of condensation environment on laser

Cause short circuit and damage to electrical components. When the laser produces condensation, electrical components are prone to short circuit. There are many circuit boards and electrical modules inside the laser, which will cause damage to the circuit board and module after short circuit, and seriously lead to the entire laser being scrapped. The following picture shows the laser cavity damaged due to condensation:

Resulting in laser output power and spot pattern changes and even optical lens damage

There are many reflection and transmission optics inside the laser for conducting the laser. When the phenomenon of condensation occurs in these optical devices, the laser through the cooling water spot mode will be seriously deformed, affecting the processing effect and efficiency, and the condensation lens itself is also easily damaged in the process of conducting laser.

How to prevent laser condensation

The condensation phenomenon is caused by the laser under the action of the external chiller temperature is low and the ambient temperature difference is large and the air humidity is high. Therefore, controlling the ambient temperature and humidity can effectively avoid the laser condensation phenomenon. Specific measures are as follows:

1. Provide a separate air conditioned space for the laser to reduce the dew point temperature. Make sure the temperature of the laser is close to the ambient temperature. (such as the water chiller set temperature of 25 degrees, the ambient temperature control of 23-27 degrees is appropriate).

2. If the ambient humidity is too high, install a dehumidifier in the laser running space to reduce the ambient humidity. (Humidity control less than 50% is recommended).

3. The set temperature of the cooling water outside the laser can be adjusted by referring to the following temperature and humidity dew point table.

The number crossed against the corresponding humidity in the ambient temperature indicates the dew point temperature, and the cooling system of the laser needs to be set at a temperature higher than the dew point temperature, which can effectively avoid condensation inside the laser.

Additional notes

In addition to the ambient temperature and humidity, in order to ensure the stable operation of the laser, the cleanliness of the environment and the protective gas are also required. Providing a clean operating environment for the laser helps to protect the optics of the laser.
